Poole Tournament

 2-3 May 2009

Well what can we say? Well plenty actual like normal but we will try to keep it short and that includes you Helen!

Under 13’s

Our 1st match saw a confident win of 9-0 against Lymington, normally slow to start the girls looked confident and rearing to go. Our 2nd game against Bournemouth 11-1 and 3rd against S Yorks 6-4 provided the parents with plenty to cheer about before breaking for lunch. After lunch the team took to the court with the same determination beating Crosskeys 10-4 and Weston Park 12-7. Then we met Hatfield and after reeling in shock at being down 2-5 at the end of the 1st half we fought back to a draw of 7-7. It was vital that we won our last game against Poole but with a couple of injuries (you are not meant to injure your own team girls) it was a tough match but finished with a win at 11-8. We won our group and went happily back to the hotel to get a good night’s sleep ready for Sunday (at least I did—not sure where the paddling in the sea fitted in girls).

Sunday-up bright and early!! Only 3 games and I am sure any spectator will tell you the 1st 2 were extremely close with us winning each by 1 goal. The 3rd game against Hatfield ended in a victory of 15-3.

The trophy was ours!

Under 12’s

We got there to discover that because of low numbers the U12’s and U11’s had been amalgamated.  Although this meant that we had 8 games to play 4 of them were against U11 teams, including our own!

Just like the U13’s we were slow to start but everyone rallied and played well, winning all our games.  This gave us a good start for Sunday.  It was back to the hotel to be well rested ready for Sunday.

Up bright and early on Sunday and after a good breakfast we headed for the venue.  We had four games to play all against U12 teams and as usual a slow start, which meant a few heart stopping moments.  However the girls rallied and we ended the day as winners and the trophy was ours!

Under 11’s

As mentioned above it came as a bit of a shock to discover that we were in a group that included all the year 12 teams.  However, the girls kept their heads up and worked hard.  The final positions after the games on the Saturday meant the we were playing the other U11 teams on Sunday.

Unlike the other teams the U11’s started Sunday well beating both Hatfield and Bournemouth.  Then we came up against Poole!  With a couple of injuries on our side we struggled but eventually the game finished in a draw.

Another successful result as we finished winners of the U11’s!  Also well done to Nicole Williams who won the shooting competition.

I hope you all agree, well worth the travelling and the suspense, all teams played some wonderful netball and are a credit to the club.  WELL DONE!
